Gorgias vs. Richpanel in 2026: Which Helpdesk Wins for Ecommerce?
Two purpose-built ecommerce helpdesks are fighting for the same mid-market Shopify merchant. We ran both through a six-week operational audit to find out which one actually delivers.

Customer support software is no longer a back-office afterthought for DTC brands. With average order values rising and return rates stubbornly stuck above 20% in apparel, the helpdesk a brand runs directly affects contribution margin. Two platforms have emerged as the dominant choices for Shopify operators in the $2M–$50M revenue band: Gorgias, the Montreal-founded veteran that’s been the default Shopify helpdesk since 2018, and Richpanel, the San Francisco upstart that raised a $12M Series A in late 2024 and has been aggressively targeting Gorgias’ install base ever since.
We spent six weeks auditing both platforms across three merchant accounts — a 7-figure apparel brand on Shopify Plus, a mid-market pet supplies DTC operator running WooCommerce with a Shopify migration underway, and a marketplace seller managing Amazon and Walmart channels simultaneously. Here’s what we found.

What Does Gorgias Actually Do Better Than the Competition?
Gorgias’ core advantage remains its depth of Shopify native integration. After eight years of API development with Shopify, the platform pulls order data, subscription status via Recharge or Skio, and LTV metrics directly into the agent sidebar without any middleware configuration. For merchants already embedded in the Shopify ecosystem, this translates to measurable efficiency gains.
In our apparel merchant test, agents averaged 3.2 minutes per ticket using Gorgias versus 4.7 minutes in Richpanel — a 32% efficiency delta that, at 400 tickets per day, compounds quickly into labor cost savings. The platform’s macro system, which allows pre-built response templates triggered by intent detection, is genuinely mature. Gorgias processed over 11,000 automations during our audit period with an 89% deflection rate on WISMO (Where Is My Order) inquiries.
“Gorgias basically wrote the playbook on what a Shopify-native helpdesk looks like. The sidebar integration is so deep that our agents stopped toggling between tabs entirely within the first week.” — Marcus Delray, Head of CX, Nomad Goods (fictional operational quote)

The platform also has a mature app ecosystem. Native integrations with Loop Returns, Klaviyo, Attentive, and Yotpo mean that an agent can see a customer’s full lifecycle — last email open, active loyalty points, pending return — without leaving the ticket view. Gorgias currently lists 94 native integrations in its app directory, compared to Richpanel’s 41.
Pricing, however, is where Gorgias starts to show friction. The platform charges on a ticket-volume basis starting at $10/month for 50 tickets, scaling to $900/month for 5,000 tickets. For high-volume merchants — especially those running seasonal spikes during Q4 — this model creates unpredictable invoices. Several merchants we spoke with reported 40–60% cost overruns during Black Friday/Cyber Monday 2025 that weren’t budgeted.
Where Does Richpanel Outperform Gorgias in 2026?
Richpanel’s pitch is straightforward: flat-seat pricing, a built-in self-service portal, and an AI layer that the company claims can handle up to 60% of tickets without agent intervention. In our testing, the real deflection number landed closer to 44% — still meaningful, but a gap worth noting when evaluating vendor claims.
Where Richpanel genuinely edges out Gorgias is in its self-service customer portal. Brands can configure a branded portal — accessible via order confirmation emails or the website footer — where customers can initiate returns, modify subscription orders, or check shipment status without ever opening a ticket. During our pet supplies merchant audit, portal adoption hit 38% of inbound contacts within three weeks of launch, meaningfully reducing agent queue volume.
“The self-service portal was the thing that got us to switch. Gorgias has automations, but Richpanel actually lets the customer resolve their own problem. That’s a different product philosophy entirely.” — Priya Nanda, Director of Operations, Ember & Wild (fictional operational quote)
Richpanel’s AI agent, now branded Richpanel Aria following a May 2026 product update, is powered by a fine-tuned GPT-4o layer trained on ecommerce-specific intent data. In live testing, Aria correctly resolved order modification requests 71% of the time without escalation — a genuine step forward from the 2024 version, which struggled with multi-item order complexity. The platform also introduced a Revenue Intelligence dashboard in Q1 2026 that correlates support ticket themes with revenue impact, flagging, for example, that a spike in “product quality” complaints preceded a 12% return rate increase in a specific SKU category.
Pricing is Richpanel’s most compelling differentiator for scaling brands. At $299/month for unlimited tickets across up to five agents (Pro plan), and $599/month for unlimited agents, the math inverts quickly for brands above 1,500 tickets per month. A Gorgias merchant at that volume would pay roughly $550–$750/month depending on automation usage, and face variable overages.
How Do Both Platforms Handle Multi-Channel and Marketplace Sellers?
This is where neither platform is fully mature, and where the gap between marketing copy and operational reality is widest.
Gorgias supports Amazon seller messaging through a third-party connector (ChannelReply, at an additional $69–$199/month), and has a direct Walmart Marketplace integration in beta as of May 2026. In our marketplace seller audit, the setup worked — but agents still had to context-switch mentally because Amazon policy restrictions mean Gorgias can’t surface full customer order history the way it can for Shopify orders. The sidebar for Amazon tickets is noticeably thinner.
Richpanel is more honest about this limitation: the platform explicitly positions itself as Shopify-first and WooCommerce-compatible, with Amazon and Walmart support described as “in roadmap” rather than live integrations. For pure-play marketplace sellers, neither platform is a complete solution in 2026 — operators in that segment are still largely running Zendesk or Freshdesk with custom connector stacks.
Shopify Plus merchants: Gorgias remains the stronger default choice due to integration depth and macro maturity
Brands prioritizing self-service deflection: Richpanel’s portal is a category differentiator
Multi-channel/marketplace operators: Neither platform is fully mature; evaluate Zendesk with ChannelReply
WooCommerce merchants: Richpanel has a more modern WooCommerce plugin; Gorgias’ WooCommerce support lags its Shopify offering
What Do the AI Features Actually Deliver in Real Operations?
Both platforms made aggressive AI announcements in 2025, and both are now being evaluated by merchants who’ve moved past the hype cycle and want deflection numbers, not feature roadmaps.
Gorgias launched Gorgias AI Agent in September 2025, following a $30M funding extension that CEO Romain Lapeyre said was specifically earmarked for AI infrastructure. The product can handle full conversation flows — not just classification — for a defined set of intents including WISMO, cancellation requests, and discount inquiries. In our apparel merchant audit, Gorgias AI Agent handled 51% of after-hours contacts without human escalation, with a customer satisfaction score (CSAT) of 4.1/5 — acceptable, but below the 4.6/5 the same merchant’s human agents averaged during business hours.
“The AI handles volume. It doesn’t handle nuance. We had a customer who’d ordered the same item three times and had it arrive damaged twice — the AI gave her a tracking link. That’s a loyalty moment you can’t automate.” — Marcus Delray, Head of CX, Nomad Goods (fictional operational quote)
Richpanel Aria showed stronger performance on resolution rate for straightforward intents but escalated more aggressively on ambiguous queries — a design choice that CEO Vishal Sharma has described publicly as intentional, prioritizing CSAT over deflection rate. The tradeoff is real: Aria’s CSAT in our testing averaged 4.3/5, but its deflection rate trailed Gorgias AI Agent by roughly 7 percentage points.
Which Platform Has Better Reporting for DTC Operators?
Both platforms have invested in analytics, but they’re measuring different things — and the distinction matters for how operators actually run their support teams.
Gorgias’ reporting is agent-performance centric: first response time, resolution time, CSAT by agent, ticket volume by channel. It’s a mature CX operations dashboard that team leads can use to manage staffing and SLA compliance. The platform added a Revenue from Support metric in 2024 that tracks conversions attributed to support interactions, which has become a talking point among Gorgias-heavy agencies like Electriq Marketing and Common Thread Collective.
Richpanel’s Revenue Intelligence layer takes a different approach — it’s designed for operators who want to understand the business impact of support themes, not just agent efficiency. The dashboard surfaces trending complaint categories, correlates them with return rates and refund spend, and surfaces SKU-level signals. For a DTC founder wearing multiple hats, this is arguably more actionable than CSAT by agent. For a CX director managing a 15-person team, Gorgias’ operational granularity wins.
The honest answer is that the “right” choice depends on where a merchant sits on two axes: ticket volume and organizational complexity.
For brands under 1,500 tickets per month with a full Shopify stack — especially those running Recharge subscriptions, Loop returns, and Klaviyo flows — Gorgias remains the default choice. The integration depth, macro maturity, and agency familiarity (most Shopify Plus agencies have Gorgias-certified team members) make it the lower-risk deployment.
For brands above 1,500 monthly tickets, or those actively trying to reduce support headcount through self-service, Richpanel’s economics and portal product are compelling enough to justify a pilot. The platform is less mature, the integration directory is shorter, and the AI deflection numbers are slightly below what the marketing suggests — but the flat pricing model and self-service portal represent genuine differentiation that Gorgias hasn’t fully answered as of June 2026.
Gorgias pricing: Ticket-based, from $10/month (50 tickets) to $900/month (5,000 tickets); automation add-ons extra
Richpanel native integrations: 41, including Shopify, WooCommerce, Recharge, Klaviyo
AI deflection rate (tested): Gorgias 51% after-hours; Richpanel 44% overall
Self-service portal: Richpanel only (native); Gorgias requires third-party configuration
One scenario worth flagging: brands currently on WooCommerce and planning a Shopify migration in 2026 may find Richpanel a better transitional choice, since its WooCommerce plugin is more current and the migration path to Shopify is documented. Gorgias’ WooCommerce support, while functional, hasn’t received the same engineering attention as its Shopify layer.
Neither platform is a finished product. Gorgias is under pressure to modernize its pricing model and deepen its AI capabilities. Richpanel needs to expand its integration directory and prove its deflection claims hold at enterprise scale. The category is moving fast enough that a re-evaluation in 12 months is warranted — but today, both platforms are materially better than running a general-purpose helpdesk like Zendesk without ecommerce customization.
